Creative Gardening
The
aim of creative gardening is to develop the possibilities of planting
design and cross the perceived boundaries of the inside and outside environment.
It is ultimately, an architectural approach to gardening which emphasises the
combination of plants with their containers and surroundings.
To this end, a unified collection of topiary frames, planters and furniture
has been produced by creative gardener's, to enhance and complement plants and
flowers, both for the garden and the home. There is a strong emphasis on designs
inspired by the natural growth forms of plants. These are produced in natural
materials for integrity as well as an interesting textural content.
The vast majority of creative gardening products are hand made by skilled
craftsmen and wherever possible, the gardener's/artist's encourage the regeneration
of lost skills and techniques.
"My greatest joy is to live amongst plants and my personal challenge is to
merge the exterior and interior landscape. As life becomes more pressured, retreat
and a place for reflection are essential to achieve equilibrium. It is therefore
a revelation to discover the calming effect of green space and the exciting
ways in which you can develop it. The beauty of form, variety of texture, complexity
of habit and natural sensuality of plants are my inspiration, I love to explore
the possibilities of expanding the garden palette by creating textural dimensions
with living sculptural statement." -Joan Clifton [Recognised creative
gardening artist]
One recognised form of creative gardening is Feng Shui:
Creative gardening experts often cover the art of Feng Shui landscape
gardening. Creative gardening and Feng Shui encompass literally means "wind-water"
and reflects the course of "chi" (chee) taken in from your surroundings. This
energy affects every area of your life.
Landscape design is not just a matter of putting up a building, planting trees
and flowers, or building an artificial mountain. It is a means of revealing
one's attitude of life by creatively displaying landscape esthetically. Landscape
needs to be restrained, gentle, and understated. We should modestly hide, not
boldly dominate as is fashionable in the West. This enables a more intimate
experience and sense of fitting into the environment.
All of Yin Yang Theory is embodied in design — the harmonious relationship
between humans and natural objects. The Chinese understanding of human power
follows the understanding of Heaven-Earth-Humanity. Human power is exerted on
behalf of subtle landscape preferences guided by the "Taste of Heaven." Creative
gardening is the artistic expression of creative gardener's.
Creative gardening with feng shui is for the person seeking balance,
tranquility, and harmony in your own personal space. The creative placement
of objects in your garden can directly influence your ability to attract more
health, wealth, and prosperity into your life. The intention is to create spaces
where the energy flows in a harmonious manner. The practice of feng shui can
be simple or complex. It is neither spiritual nor religious, but it can involve
elements of both, if you wish.
Feng shui is not magic and it cannot change things in your world overnight
or get rid of all of life's difficulties, although it is a positive form of
creative gardening. It can enhance your periods of good fortune and support
you in times of misfortune, depending on your intention and beliefs. Another
way to describe feng shui is "the placement of all objects". In other words,
how any object is arranged with other objects is called feng shui.
In short, gardening with feng shui will enhance your life, and your creative
gardening skills. Always remember the basic law of life and gardening: you
reap what you sow. When you plant seed of kindness, truthfulness, consideration,
and reliability, this is what you will harvest. And adapting this very ancient
Chinese earth science to this modern living environment is an easy and effective
way to enhance all that you sow in your garden and your life.
In conclusion, anybody can undertake creative gardening. From feng shui to
simply creating the garden of your dreams. From spalshes of color to a futuristic
themed garden. It's your choice. That's what makes creative gardening so much
fun and fulfilling.
